This is where it all started....sort of. This video is pretty much my introduction to the TMV forums about 3 years ago. Up to that point I had been singing for many years on my own and a few months before joining the forum had started to, for the first time, read books and try to actually learn more about what I was doing. I posted this video on the forum of "Wish You Were Here" by Pink Floyd and that kind of kicked off a sort of relationship with Felipe. It would be another year or so before we started working together. I have come a long way since this video.

Thanks for listening. Felipe, do you remember this?

Hey Tommy. Yep, I remember! But it is really cool to listen to this again, we worked for quite a while and we never actually stoped to look back. Really cool!

Thanks bro. Yea, that seems like a long time ago. Not that long I guess but a lot of work. My range is much higher now and there is a whole lot more I can do with my voice. Thank "you" for that.

Just listened to this. Cool. Actually not a bad start. You were in very good relative pitch up to a point and then you kinda went to a new key lol. And I'd assume your range didn't go much higher than what you sang. Obviously the stuff I hear from you now is miles better.

If you don't mind me adding onto the thread, here is my own "raw beginning", first ever real live singing performance to an audience. HUGE stroke of beginner's luck LOL. My first coach had some great basic advice and warm ups to get me through this.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v.....jkY8JIsZYg

It's interesting, I went through a period of time singing this song WAY worse than this first performance due to being coached or self-teaching incorrectly, thinking I had to bridge to M2 at the E4. (I cringe at the memory) Or when I tried not to I'd have to really yell for the notes. Although I had fixed the main problems of that first performance the approach got thrown off. But now I feel everything is fixed, the big picture and the details are in place, the song has become a real good fit for my voice and enjoyable to sing. Smile

Thanks for listening Owen and thanks for the clip Confused

For the sake of interested....in other words "if anyone is interested!" ha ha ha.Laugh
Here is a recording done a couple of years ago of the same song...maybe a year after the first one? I don't remember. This one has music and it is a collaboration between me and another TMV forum member. I think his name was mraselli? He had posted a recording of him playing acoustic guitar to a backing track and also him singing. I liked his guitar part and asked for the track. I laid in the vocals and the rest, as they say, is history!!! (P.S. I also have a collaboration of a Stevie Ray Vaughan song from a few years ago with the famous ronws!).

So here is the same song in the start of this thread done a sometime later and with accompaniment.

Well, although I can consider my video at the start of this thread "starting out" It was and it wasn't.
It wasn't like I suddenly wanted to play guitar and picked one up for the first time. At the point of making that video I had been singing for many years. I just never sang in front of anyone more than a handful of times nor did I ever record myself. I was in a choir when I was a child for a brief time. But the important point is that when I made the video It was at the start of me actively now trying to learn how to sing "properly." I had began learning from books and such at this point for about 6 or 7 months (maybe a year) then I joined the forum and made the video. Smile

Also to put mine in perspective, it WAS pretty new for me singing wise (couple months singing, couple weeks training), BUT...

I did have a 10 year head start as a musician learning other instruments first. Laugh The guitar included.

Also like I said, the worst part of my singing journey actually came months after this performance when I hit quit lessons and self-taught incorrectly for way too long and really lost a scary amount of power and control. I have some...err...interesting....files of that...Embarassed

Thanks Phil. Actually I did get a complaint about using vibrato and that Gilmour doesn't sing with vibrato. Laugh "Yea, but I'm not trying to do Gilmour." I'm doing Tommy...lol

Thanks for the listen.

Okay, sorry, i must one up all of you. Laugh

This is not my very beginning, this was after I thought my first coach was teaching incorrectly (which he was a little bit, but I was WAAAAY more incorrect) so I quit lessons and tried to figure it out on my own...

THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU TRY TO SELF-TEACH WITH FREE SSTV VIDEOS

(Yes these are all separate takes, I was pretty much insane pursuing this)
https://app.box.com/s/xlmqcfq6qmtvb96s0gyg

And then shit happened LIVE too
Start at 1:40
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dO8fWzcAl9Y

I don't think the world has heard a more perfect example of "chest voice atrophy" and "singing out of your range" combined

These weren't even the original melodies, I was picking easy songs, but then trying to do these super high melody variations on the last chorus to create a climactic moment and just, uhhhhmm...

Hello to all! Smile My first post.

I hadn't sang in front of anybody since I sang at weddings in the 80's. This is me singing Norwegian Wood a couple of years ago recorded with a Kodak Play/Sport video camera. There is crowd noise and people singing along.

Let's see if this works.

Holy crap guys, this thread is hilarous! Please, post more of these raw beginnings!
This is going to be a fierce competition. For the moment, i am hesitating between Owen and Felipe for the epic fail contest.
I felt utter pain for Felipe who keeps shouting A4s while his voice is falling appart, that was so fierce. But Owen's agonizing voice on the high parts was also something.
Fortunately enough, none of us were deluded enough to go to a singing show! We would be featured on Youtube with million views lol

I didn't keep my vert first recordings, but i can still lay down some funny ones :

Here is a live performance where i was too drunk to remember my lyrics. Yourtsinging powa!

The best part of the song has been cut by my bandmate unfortunately. In the end, i sing in some kind of weird falsetto.

Another recording :

If you wanna hear Mickey Mouse familly, skip to 4.19
