What are some sensations you guys learned during your training that really help you sing?

One recent one for me is the sensation of the pulling down feeling of vowel modification/open throat and the pulling down feeling of support being interconnected. That's very easy to misinterpret, you can't force it, but you'll just know it's right when you feel it.

One that helped me way back when, probably not anymore since I've outgrown the issue, was holding back the air so much it would sound choked and talking like that and then slowly letting more air released until I was using the least amount of air to get the sound I want, and then singing with that feeling in mind.

Another one, ironically sometimes thinking of the sensation of a higher note in full voice helps me approach a note around the passaggio from a place where I'm shifting resonance in advance and not reaching up to it. Especially if I'm not warmed up, to not let that get to me, I just have to think about a more extreme resonance shift and support like I'm going for a higher note when warmed up, but still of course actually mentally aim for the right pitch, and then I'm less likely to strain and go flat.

The sensation when you go up a scale, as you descend, to descend correctly, in some way kind of feels to me as if I'm continuing to go up. If you think of it as a reversal people tend to let go of things like support and break, so thinking of the idea of continuing upwards even though you're not helps you maintain support and similar things that need to just keep increasing over the time of the phrase and can't be let go as early as most people think.

Another cool one I used to think about a lot when going up a scale on an open vowel is it's like there is one imaginary path staying down the whole time and sound travels directly backward on top of that (this would represent the tongue position) but at the same time you also get the sensation of the note traveling up and back across the soft palate as you go higher like it's walking up a ramp or if it's a scale it's like a staircase, and one step per note. That one's really hard to explain but it's kind of what helped me get through the long 9-note scale without choking in the middle and breaking. And then on the way down I believe you DO reverse the process but I'm not 100% sure about that. I have also since thought less about this sensation (probably became habit) but it was helpful at the time.

That's all I can think of at the moment.

It seems that these little "tricks" come and go and are individual but I know a lot of coaches know some that work equally well for many students. I'm just curious to hear what works for you guys and also to break from the typical TERMS discussions let's talk about stuff that you can actually apply while you practice! At least for me, these sensations (also the sounds, but that's a whole other can of worms) really carve the path to growing the voice, not knowing all the science, terms, etc.
