OfflineHere's a little sample of me singing classical haha
Been taking classical lessons for a couple of months now. My apologies for butchering the Italian language

OfflineThat's cool and awesome of you for exploring this path. Reminds me of Freddie Mercury right now - you still have the contemporary tone but with a lot of classical influence in the stylistic elements of your singing.

OfflineCool! That remind me that I've always wanted to make a cover of Nessun Dorma but it's a little too much for me now, hahaha.
Keep your hard work!
I'm an amateur singer just trying to get better with each new song that I try to cover. I'm just starting. Sorry for my English! I'm from Catalonia (Spain)

OfflineHey sexy beast awesome note separation on those runs in the song.
My comment is that for this style, you are singing too high larynxed. You would need to at least approach those higher notes with a neutral larynx if not a slightly lowered position. You will notice some crazy depth and amazing color to your voice once you start utilizing different larynx positions with full cord closure.

OfflineIf you can try posting again once you have experimented with different larynx positions, I would love to hear that.

OfflineHey Adam, I'm not really experimenting with different larynx positions haha... We're just looking for a neutral larynx with my teacher that's it. Anyway I can't raise or lower my larynx on command, or my soft palate or whatever nor do I want to... I just want a natural and correct sound for my voice. But yeah I might post it again or something different maybe ![]()

Offlinewhat do you mean you CAN'T lower or raise your larynx on command? I get tone-deaf beginners to do that in the very first lesson!
To think that there is one natural and correct sound to your voice is silly. That is so limiting! there are many different sounds and colors to your voice! the sound and color used should be dictated by the song and genre you are singing in.
why don't you want to explore that?

OfflineAdam, what I meant is my main focus is to have a basic, natural sound, middle ground for my voice. From there I can color in both directions depending on the song, style, phrase, etc... Obviously I will make certain ajustements depending on the style/song/etc... but I think those happen naturally for musical and stylistic reasons and I don't need to consciously raise or lower my larynx for instance.
I just think it's important to find the natural "middle spot" in your voice or 12 o'clock position. I can sing at 1 o'clock or 10 o'clocketc... but I need to know where my 12 o'clock is. I think there's plenty of versatility in that. I did post a clip in the vocal technique section where I'm doing some distortion and that's probably not my 12 o'clock sound

OfflineOh ok I misunderstood what you were saying there. Just keep in mind that when we are trying to find our 12 o'clock position, and we have been singing at 9 o'clock for years, we have to step out of our comfort zone and experiment to find that true 12 o'clock position. What I mean is don't be afraid to try a darker tone, or brighter tone for that matter, than you are used to because from what I can hear, there is more depth to your voice than you are currently accessing.
