My wife always complains that I don't sing rock anymore and some say I have lost my rock voice and that everything sounds like Souls/R&B and Blues. ronws on the tmv forum always said that no matter what I sing it sounded like Ray Charles singing it. (I only wish).
Well here is my version of Metalica's version of "Whiskey In The Jar."

Yay? or Nay?
(I recorded two other songs just in case. One Temptations soul/R&B and one Blues Rock, Joe Cocker)Laugh

Hey Tommy!

Man, didn't like this one...

It's out of the style (some issues with the melody too). Of course it's not necessary to copy James but the way you are attacking notes, and in speciall some ornaments you are using sounds off with the song.

Metallica is all about "tight" everything. Their power comes mostly from the tight timing of their phrasing, it's all boring and square :P.

Hope it makes sense, don't think you lost anything, it's more a matter of adjusting to the style and you are set. And this is not exactly an easy song to get right either.

I echo Felipe's comments. It also sounds like you aren't supporting your voice. You will need to really engage a lot of compression to get the same piercing intensity that Hetfield gets in this:
I would recommend next lesson you get with Felipe have him help you work on the song and getting your voice to the right intensity.

Thanks guys....Actually I'm not going to concern myself with it really. I'm not looking to do this song. I just happen to come across the backing track while looking for something else I couldn't find.
And sounding like Metalica? No way brothers. Laugh That's not my thing. That is a biggie for me...I never really want to sound like the original I always try to do my own thing...although I am limited by the track. If I had a band behind me I'd change everything. )

But I don't try to capture the original sound. IMO the original has been done. I do Tommy Cool But I guess some songs may not go over well doing "my thing" due to not being able to change the backing music to also reflect my thing. . Smile

But like I said..I'm not looking to do this song. If I were in a band...maybe. But me just up there solo singing to a pre recorded track? It looks goofy. "Hey check out the old guy singing rock!" hahha ha.

But I hear what your saying.

Keep in mind that Metalica is only covering a Thin Lizzy song. Thin Lizzy is covering an old Irish Folk song that sounds very little like both versions. I may be in between.

Thanks guysSmile
