Hey guys,
Another singer and I decided to collaborate on the song Impossible by James Arthur. There is quite a large disparity in the quality of our respective recordings since he only has a computer microphone and I am using about $1500 dollars worth of gear to record my track. I tried my best using my limited mixing skills to close the gap and get the whole track sounding as good as possible.

I am the second singer. The first singer is a guy named Josh that I met in another forum.

Let me know what you guys think! constructive criticism is welcome.

Wow great stuff Adam (Josh too, isn't he Bay on the modern vocalist forum?) I liked the chemistry you guys had on the recording, please do another collab soon!

Being very honest Adam, your part is coming killer, but the differences between the voices are messing up the end result, and its a shame, I think if you guys could work a bit on closing the gap it would sound great.

I would try hi passing his parts to try to get rid of that low end mud, some eq on the mid to give more definition. The reverb is probably not possible to fix, but there seems to be also a timing issue, maybe latency on his side of the recording that is off?

Thank you, Yes, he is the Bay Harbor Butcher from the modern vocalist forum. We are working on Stay by Rihanna next.

@Felipe- Thank you, I will try eqing the next recording even more because I did use quite a bit of eq here. He recorded this in a very lively acoustical space. I told him to record the next one in as dead a space as possible. I will do my best to bridge the gap on the next one.

I think the recording killed what probably could have been a lot better. But remember....my recording sucks so I can't really comment. All I mean is that there were two different recordings working here so that kind of threw it off. For me, the song kicked in at 1:19. The tone of the vocals there was very good as was the singing in general. Before that it was in and out. "BUT" I have to add that I will blame Bay for that. I have heard him sing before and I've been to his soundcloud page. I know I am the odd man out here and in the minority but I "personally" don't care for his singing. I will admit that he sings well and I can see people complimenting him, but for me it doesn't work. I just don't like his tone nor his style of constant runs and modulations. To me it's boring. He seems to do the same riff over and over song after song.
Just my personal taste.

I liked your partSmile

Thank you so much TommyTheHat. I appreciate the feedback. It is interesting how he has a lot of fans but some don't really care for his voice, my wife being one of them now.

I just did a cover of stay by Rihanna with him that I will post up here soon.

I love that song and can be caught singing it in the car on the way from work quite often (shhh....don't tell anyone). I can't wait to hear it. (you) Wink
