Rewind...hmm...8 months ago?

I remember after performing this I wanted my dad to delete the video. I thought i had done a totally mediocre performance and ruined the song. He thought I was great (trust me that's RARE lol) so he posted it himself

I had the courage to listen to it today. Not so bad. Could have sang it better, but I think I got the message of the song across despite the imperfections

Thoughts?

This was before Matt McAndrew freaking nailed it on The Voice. Now no one can cover it because no one will ever cover it better than him. I'm not gonna link in his video cause that would be cruel to myself. Laugh

EDIT: This was at like 10:30 in the morning too, kinda rough. I can't remember exactly how long, but I warmed up for like somewhere between 2-4 hours and still felt like my voice wasn't fully warm yet. I'd have totally butchered this song without the warm up though

Hi Owen,

A few weeks ago I sang the more challenging A-side of this song pretty well for Phil, so I feel somewhat qualified to give you advice. I think the trick to singing this is to hold out the onsets of the higher gentler notes and fade them in rather than singing them in falsetto or splatting them, the latter of which you didn't do, but is probably a common pitfall for this song. By the gentler notes, I mean "living," "stars," "sure" (should be sung more like 'share') and so on. I enjoyed the way you sang them, so I guess it's a matter of taste, but if you listen to Wilson's voice it's so well-blended between the mix and falsetto voice that it sounds more like a subtle change in dynamics rather than going into falsetto.
