What a good way to come into the forum. David Ruffin is also probably my favorite singer of all time. He sounded so passionate, powerful, and vulnerable at the same time and his timbre is one of the best sounds I've ever heard in my life.

For anyone who isn't that deep into Ruffin and only knows the Temptations, I've heard of all his albums, and he did have a pretty spotty solo career, but be sure to check out this album:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/D.....n_album%29

It wasn't released in his lifetime, held back for whatever reason, but I like it as much as any of my Ruffin era Temptations albums. He's at his vocal peak, explosive and incredibly emotive. This song here is possibly the most naked I've ever heard him sound, and he always sounded like he was putting every last ounce of himself into his songs:

Edit: I almost forgot, but I covered My Whole World Ended Myself

Still have yet to master it though.

David Ruffin is probably my number one favorite singer and one of my biggest vocal influences. I wish I could share is sound, but there is one thing we do share and that is a birthday on the same day. How coincidental is that?! Today, January 18th I wish a happy birthday to Mr. Ruffin and I thank him for his inspiration. He was born in 1941....me in 1957
I have no idea why, but when I hear him sing I feel like crying. I also love his stage presence. It's funny because when I watch him sing or watch the "Temptations" movie, I get up and mimic his movements. My wife tells me to stop and "don't you dare do that in public when you sing!" LMAO!!!

When he left the Temptations and went solo he made this song (and album) "My Whole World Ended (The Moment You Left Me)". I love this song so much it makes me ache inside. If I had a track for this I would lock myself away until I perfected it. So take a listen to this great song and Happy Birthday David Ruffin.
