I hear ya....and that was the point of posting this. I was showing wabba treads that I don't sing this for recording or live. it is just a practice song that i use to improve bit by bit. Something I like to sing but it's right at my borderline.

Haha I think there are a lot of cool points Tommy, but you are indeed pushing the line on the higher ones, which is not nice of course :P. It does remind of the original line on a lot parts.

I think it sounds good but those points could use some attention :).

Well, Paul Rogers (imo) was deceptive. THAT BOY CAN SING!!! He hits some pretty high notes. Don't forget he did replace Freddie Mercury for awhile touring with Queen, before Adam Lambert. Bowie has a pretty good range too.

Absolutely! For me I'm not just all about the high notes, I like to tone it down too, not just belt and wail all the time. People like Frank Sinatra, Paul Rodgers and Gino Vannelli weren't quite as renowned for big range as someone like Rob Halford or Robert Plant but what they did with the range they had was what made them great. Having a big range isn't the total package of the singer either, its how musical you make your range sound. That's why I also train with songs like "The Crystal Ship" and I didn't go crazy my first submission.

I agree @ "Heroes. I love his vocals in "Cat People" too. He is such a unique and ecclectic singer and artist. This is probably one of my favorites from him I am trying to nail.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v.....rfc8c6VkTA

Wow I don't know how he has such fabulous and effortless vibrato on the EE vowel at 1:06! Makes me want to work harder at it. Probably one of my favorite higher passages from him.

Edit; I just realized I post youtube clips on threads more than anyone else on the forum. Whoops sorry for the thread clutter

Ok sorry if I unintentionally forced you into this! If it makes you feel any better, you can give me a request too lol. I need something to practice on. I was in the middle of learning "Life on Mars?", a classic David Bowie song that is pretty challenging. Tons of Bb4s in that one.

Wabba, I need you around more. You brighten my mood (and I'm a miserable son of a bitch). I really don't think I sound like Gary, but hey. I won't argue!! Although his singing isn't my "style" so to speak...I like lower toned more gritty singers, he is still one of my favorite vocalists. The guy is just amazing. But still. I won't make this song part of my list. I love singing it because it's a great tune and a great exercise. But I'm not comfortable with it. Sometimes it's real good, but sometimes it's just "almost." Late in the day...like after 6 or 7 and well warmed up it is sometimes surprising to me. But it's too iffy.

Thanks again man

Ok wow, on the contrary, this cover is nothing to be ashamed of ! If you ever did this live and I saw it, I would give you a standing ovation. That was pretty darn good for being just a practice session. I'm telling you man, your timbre and Gary's are so similar its uncanny.

This is how he does it nowadays, he still hits the A4s like the original, really a great singer.

Yo Wabba.! I had a few minutes today (and when I say a few I mean a FEW) and threw this together for you. Now! The preface. I just made this because you mentioned it and wanted to hear me do it. And I told you I sing this everyday but don't record it or sing it live. Once you listen to it you'll hear why I can "sort of" sing it but it isn't a comfortable fit so I don't concern myself with it. I just use it as a practice song for the higher range. There was a time not long ago I couldn't hit the highest notes here. I still feel they need work but It isn't my main concern since I don't sing songs this high normally. They've gotten better.

So I put this together quickly Just to show you that it isn't really for me. This is a quick recording, one take, no warmup, no mixing, no nothing. Five minutes in and out and back to cooking dinner. . It's a true example of how I sing this. As if I were watching a band and they asked me to come up and sing. Just like that. That's how I did it. So don't consider the recording or how bad it is etc. It's not for that. It's just to show you why I normally don't record this or do it in public.
