Owen, I agree with you on the lighter sound despite the effort put. The thing is, i was paradoxically trying to stay in mixed voice all the way through, while on the Dio cover, i will constantly navigate between mixed voice and belting. About twang, on the mix, i can add more, but i am not a big fan of the sound becoming too masky. I have heard a lot of singers sounding very masky in their mixed voice because it seems thats the only way they have to achieve a decent intensity in the sound.

Also, loud doesn't mean that the outcome will necessary be heavy, because it was quite loud (based not from my perception or my neighboor, but the earthquake lines on my recording software) when i had my voice in full shape. So its a bit disappointing. I like the growls too! But then, the rest of the voice has to follow you can't sing like a choirboy after grunting like a beast!

I am merely trying to imitate his own approach that is slightly different from the original singer. Instead of having splatty and "dreamy" belts (as the original singer has), Jens has precisely this daker and more operatic sound that is the quality of a fully grown heavy mixed voice. I don't even know if we can call that mix, given the amount of chestiness he puts in it.
Also, he has this really tight chord closure that i feel i lack on my own attempt.

My apologies for not finding the karaoke / instrumental track. I had to raise my voice on top of the mix but even there, it kind of blends with the original singer at some point...

Owen, to put things in perspective, here is a song where i use a very different approach from usual.
I am all the time in mix, but i would say this is some kind of heavy mix. It might not be appearant, but it is freaking loud. I didn't know i could be that loud in mixed voice. My parents sent me in the garage and i had to stay like half a meter from the mic.

Its really a work in progress, and discovering what my voice can do, so, guys, feel free to comment. I would like to know if this mixed voice sounds convincing to your ears!
