Here's a cover I did of Journey - Don't Stop Believin'.
A tough song. If I was to sing this again I would make sure to shift my resonance properly so that I can FLOAT on the sustained notes a lot better.
Enjoy!

thanks guys, haha that first B4 on the "night" is a little too light I was worried I was going to oversing it so I backed off but I backed off a little too much and it sounds a little anti-climaxing LOL! But the second "night" i think I got the weight pretty good.

Always loved this cover, listened many times.
Phil I agree completely on the intensity of the B4's. You have such good accurate ears for vocal intensity. It's a skill I think I had naturally but then lost as I was brainwashed by coaches who would have thought that the way you did that first B4 is just the only healthy way to do it, or the way to train to eventually got to the big B4. But now that I'm training with you I'm realizing all my old instincts about vocal weight and how it was being produced, are mostly true. The one big thing I did have to learn from you is the difference between full voice that doesn't have a range ceiling vs. ramming up chest to where it hits a ceiling.

Appreciate the comments Owen. And I like you had some great natural instincts that were destroyed by training with the wrong methods also. When I learned the right way to do things I realized some things I was doing naturally in the beginning were actually in the right direction and I should have stayed in that direction.

Yea man! I subscribe to your channel so I've heard this before but it's great stuff. I love Journey and Steve Perry is great although it isn't my goal or desire to sing like him. However! I do use Journey songs (and the like) as 'exercises" to little by little increase my range. Kind of like replacing a scale with a song or songs that incrementally increase in range. This way I'm not just "hitting" a note, I'm singing it. Ok...well it makes sense to me.
Great job Phil.

I'm thinking Rainbow (Dio) - Stargazer, then I'm gonna do more RnB stuff.
