just a real quickie done on a work night.....REALLY tired vocals lol.

This is a Latvian buddy's music track from wikilioops....so the only thing thats mine are the vox.

I wrote the lyrics and then it was like 9pm and I couldnt keep my eyes open and i was going to wait until the next day but then I said 'nah, just lay down a quick scratch vocal'....next thing I know it was 11:30 and the alarm clock goes off at 2am lol

Nothing too serious happening, just a fun track

The story is my paraphrase of an older story....anyone figure out where it comes from??

Cool track JonJon. I like the lyrics as well as the vocals.
I thought the vocals were good although this isn't my style of music....even in my heavy metal and hard rock side...lol. I'm not really into this type of stuff so have nothing to compare it to although that doesn't matter much I guess. It sounded good vocally.Smile

Oh, and I can't figure out the "old story" lol Unless its not an actual "story" and just the age old story of a man falling for a woman who then takes him for everything.

Really cool JonJon! Your voice sounds great in the track man! Although I liked the first half better. I think the 2nd part, or more specifically what it seems to be the chorus, sounded plain. You set me up in the first half, so I was expecting higher notes or more variation in the chorus. Overall very cool tune. The instrumental reminded of Black Sabbath. Cheers and keep'em coming.

haha, that "relaxed" chorus is the best part!! Like I said, its more stoner rock than your basic "build it and peak in the chorus"

but really if u think about it, it just needs a harmony or two in the chorus and maybe a gtr ovdub and it would be pretty conventional...this was more like a simple scratch thing to attempt to wet my appetite for more

So far most everything ive done has been the thing where you build up with the verse being laid back, prechorus steps up a notch, then the chorus is the climax. Thats obviously the bread and butter way to do it and what ill mainly continue to do but there are other ways.

one of the hardest things for me is to conceptualize a laid back song lol....but there are many of them out there. Id rather just build them up conventionally.

On some songs the prechorus sort of IS the climax and the actual chorus (song title) is more of a utrnaround

if I think of some examples ill post them

btw

Like I said, the music part wasnt mine. All i had was the premixed stereo track with drums/gtr/bass. if it were ME mixing it I probably would have tried to bring out the drums a bit more especially on the chorus. That way you would feel the "build" a bit more even though the vox didnt hit a high note in the chorus

A couple of examples where the energy sort of drops into the chorus. Its not a let down though, its a different type of groove

its also a thing of "well, what do we consider the chorus to be??". The chorus doesnt HAVE to be the song title....it doesnt HAVE to be anything. Thats how I look at it.....a song is an experience, who cares about the details of it

of course, we have stuff like this....where the "climax" is simply the repetitive part lol.

So thats sort of my point. There are different "formulas" for songs. The "build to a peak" is ONE way to do it, but there is also the sort of repetitive/hypnotic way
